I’ve had DD-WRT on my home router for awhile. DD-WRT works well but I want to setup some VLANS to play with some LAB configuration and the build of DD-WRT did not have the VLAN GUI. I had no success configuring this on the command line (could totally be me).

I always wanted to try OpenWRT but I have had zero success so far loading it to any hardware. I came across this video on Youtube:

The VLAN support got me really excited!

I spent several hours trying to load OpenWRT onto the RT-N13U (worst router ever) using the ASUS tool and for the strangest reason it just would not work!

Luckily, as I was about to give up, I came across some comments on Youtube that VirtualBox is the culprit. The networking that VirtualBox installs creates some conflicts. I tried the install on another computer with success!!

Onto my labs…
